The Problem
Dangerous rat poisons called second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs) continue harming wildlife across Connecticut due to secondary poisoning.

A statewide SGAR ban failed to pass during the legislative session.

2026
Rather than accepting defeat, CVA began working directly with local leaders willing to pursue protections at the municipal level.
April
2026
HISTORIC BREAKTHROUGH:
Newtown became the first town in Connecticut to ban rodenticides on town property!
Building Momentum
More towns and cities across Connecticut are stepping up and exploring similar protections for wildlife.


2026 ADVOCACY IN ACTION
Because of supporters like you, 2026 became a year of growing momentum for animals across Connecticut. While not every bill crossed the finish line, advocacy efforts expanded public engagement, strengthened relationships with lawmakers, and advanced meaningful protections for animals and wildlife statewide.

BALLOON RELEASE BAN

A Long Fought Battle Finally Ends
Connecticut officially banned the intentional release of balloons into the environment to protect wildlife from entanglement and ingestion.
HARMFUL BILLS DEFEATED

Thwarted Another Bear Hunting Attempt
Attempts to weaken wildlife protections and legalize bear hunting were once again defeated.
PROTECTING SURVIVORS & PETS

Support Services Are on the Horizon
Momentum continued building for policies aimed at keeping domestic violence survivors and their pets safely with them during times of crisis.
