Colette Griffin
While in law school, Colette’s animal advocacy journey began while volunteering at a local municipal dog pound where she witnessed the disturbing conditions these animals were forced to endure. Upon graduating from law school, Colette created the animal rescue agency New Leash on Life, which she ran for over 15 years and was able to rescue thousands of domestic animals. She has worked with women in domestic violence shelters which exposed her to the significant link between family violence and animal abuse and neglect. Colette also founded the Animal Law section of the Connecticut Bar Association which focuses on educating lawyers on animal-related laws in Connecticut.

Colette Griffin is the President and Treasurer of the CVA Board of Directors. She graduated from the University of Bridgeport (now Quinnipiac University) Law School and has since accrued almost 40 years of experience working, volunteering, and advocating for humans and non-human animals in Connecticut. Colette is very passionate about caring for non-human animals. She fosters old, handicapped, and scheduled to be euthanized animals. As a practicing lawyer, she volunteers her time as an Animal Advocate in animal cruelty cases.
Colette is extremely passionate about CVA’s role in educating people on the plight of non-human animals and believes that all life deserves to be recognized, respected, and treated with dignity. When asked to reflect on her time working with CVA, she stated, “seeing the commitment of the fellow CVA board members and advisory board members has been such
a breath of fresh air. To be a part of a group that shares compassion, empathy, and recognition of the importance of non-human beings having a place in this world makes me proud to be associated with such fellow humans.”
