Sponsored by the Animal Welfare Federation of CT, with support from the ASPCA, CT Votes for Animals and New England Federation of Humane Societies. All Proceeds will Benefit the AWFCT's Spay/Neuter Efforts.
Each year, hundreds of animals are being imported into CT from other states and countries for the purpose of rescue and adoption. Currently there are no regulations for animal importation, but that's about to change!
Given the humanitarian effort to rescue the thousands of highly adoptable puppies and dogs who are in the south and other areas, and given the public demand for such animals in New England, this conference is meant to provide a constructive discussion of ways to effectively regulate importation while ensuring the well-being and safety of the animals and the community.
Are you with a rescue organization?
Do you work in animal control?
Are you a CT lawmaker?
Perhaps a concerned volunteer or citizen?
If so, importation regulations and transport laws may have an impact on you. This conference is designed to open a dialogue about the ideal standards, rules and best practices for importation. Further, the discussion should focus on ways to ensure that regulation is manageable and reasonable to allow and encourage compliance.
Panelists will bring varied perspectives to the table, representing a rescue organization that currently imports dogs from the south, a transport company, a legislative organization and a New England shelter that has been impacted greatly by regulations passed in Massachusetts.
Attend this meeting, join the discussion and help navigate the road to effective laws that will ensure the health and welfare of the animals and people involved.
Moderator: Sandy Monterose, ASPCA
